Any secrets to getting one out?
Tried heat, vicegrips (worthless), side cutters, little chisels, etc.
No joy yet.
I need to polish a crank nose.

Weld some scrap metal to it.
Long metal.. Grind a slit in it. Then weld the metal with the slit onto the key. Hammer it out.

Tap on one end of the key with a hammer. This should raise the other end. Then use a center punch on the raised end to remove the key.

I've done what Kesteb said. If stuck, heat with propane torch, hit with PB Blaster or similar, or a wax candle, and try again. Normally I never touch mine, only if damaged.

Really! Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I'd be concerned about removing too much metal, and having a loose fit for the balancer.
Why are you polishng it? Trying to get rid of a seal groove?

I wonder if some previous owner glued it in place?

Roger

I had a similar problem.
That is why I used the method I mentioned above.

This of course was an in vehicle/ in block solution too.
