Yeah, I worked the inside of mine until I could take a small propane torch and just keep making it warmer and warmer and it would go on with very little effort. Also put a little never seize on the shaft.

I used some anti-seeze, didn't seem to help.

Stan, Please forgive me I was having an old timers moment. I used the propane torch and never seize on my crank gear, not the Damper, to get it off and on easily. :?

You are forgiven! LOL
Here is the inside of the damper.
That is a small mountain of metal, hard, not loose metal.
The spot to the left is the first booger removed last time with a file.

I have stock dampers on all my junk. I think I have accumulated 3 Fisher dampers, but never used any of them.

What does the crank snout look like? Is it missing a chunk?

Bob Dally had one break on his Bonneville Barracuda 170. My guess is the bolt was not sufficiently tightened and/or loctited, at least in Bob's case. I always go 60-70 ft-lbs with mine and use loctite and have never seen this. One time I was out of loctite and I used JB Weld. I've heard of a couple more incidents like this, but it is rare.
