Does anyone have, or know where I can get my hands on a cad file for the slant six (solid lifter head) valve cover gasket? I had something in the works, but the guy has gone silent on me.

Ill take a pot shot here.
There is a guy on ebay that makes valve cover spacers for many popular v8s in various thicknesses out of aluminum, and he's on ebay...
Medice mfg. I think he's in PA if I remember correctly,
I got a set for my 360 magnum when I put the 1.7 rocker arms onto it. I know he does small block Mopar, Ford, shivvy, olds 455, Ford 460, big block Mopar, Mopar magnum, plus I believe a few others.
He may well market one for a /6. If he does, he would have to have the files you seek.

I have yet to do one.

I could do one, but It would be a while as I do not have time with the extra work I have taken on this summer.

Doesn't Aussie Speed sell a spacer?

Hello:

I just measured up a a bare cylinder head and will do up a drawing right now...this will be based on the flange though, and not a valve cover gasket with tabs and such. I want this for myself as well so I thought I would give back to the community.

If you want an actual valve cover gasket file with locating tabs I won't be able to help on the short term. I will laser cut a fiber board template of my drawing tomorrow at work and make sure it fits. I only used a straight edge and ruler assuming that the engineers used basic 1/16" increments for spacing, and that sure looks like what they did based on my measurements.

I will post pictures of my results and the file by Sunday if I can...very busy weekend ahead.

OK, finished the drawing. I will try to get it laser cut tomorrow and double check fit.

If it fits, I'll post .DXF and .DWG...

Hey Guys:

Sorry it took so long, was swamped with work, had two B-day parties to attend, and found out a good friend died suddenly on Tuesday. Just wasn't in the mood to sit at the computer and post.

I got the first prototype cut last Saturday out of 3mm cardboard(1/8" in the cardboard world), Anyway, I had an audience of good friends visiting from out of town, so of course, the laser started acting up. For some reason it would start each cut fine, but by the time the beam had traveled 30" or so, it would stop cutting through the material and the beam width had doubled in Kerf. I was able to Exacto knife the uncut areas, hence some ugly edges in the pictures here and there.

I'm figuring the X-axis mirror has come out of alignment, so the farther you travel in X, the worse the problem and cut. It's a 20yr old Beam Dynamics 500W, and usually we can cut up to 1/8" steel, albeit slow, about 4"/min. Anyway, I'll figure it out, since it's my job to fix everything...and I've been fixing this laser for fifteen years.

Here is a couple of pictures. I got all the measurements correct except the end raius'. I thought it looked/measured 1.125" radius, but it must be 1.25 or 1.375" to pull in the corner.

I'll post a revised drawing and CAD files for cutting after I fix the drawing corner radius and the laser, so I can cut another prototype.

Remember, this file would work great as a valve cover rocker clearance spacer, but would need to be modified to work well to make gaskets. When I have a clean valve cover in hand(soon), I'll create that drawing as well.

Thanks

Gearhead

That is what Ryan needs for his 260" motor with the roller rockers! Thanks! :D

I bought a couple of valve cover cutouts from Slant Daily.
Shipping was unreasonable, but I wanted the parts and bit the bullet.

The casting might be thicker in those corners as well where the radius sets in around the corner for thicker / wider gasket material/sealing surface.

Very cool. I should get 1-2 of these spacers. Once in a while I've had rockers hit the valve cover with bigger cams. Nice work, Karl.

I haven't abandon this thread,

Just had a crazy busy week as is the self employed lifestyle.. I bolted the gasket down to get the most accurate measurements I could. I need another 1/16" on one side, and a minor tweak on the radius on one corner. The drawing is easy enough to change, however, the laser cutter now needs maintenance, which I have very little time to provide. I have full access to the laser cutter, but I contract my work to the facility, and other work is keeping me away from the laser cutter. As many who have read my various threads on this site, my life is not predictable, and it is difficult to predict tomorrow. I will try to fix the laser problems this week, then cut a template, and if it fits, provide .dxf and .dwg for laser or water jet cutting.

Hi Guys:

Finally got in to work on the laser and troubleshoot. Found the problem and ordered parts, revised the drawing. When the parts arrive, I'll cut the new profile, and if all is well, post the files for laser or water jet cutting.
