Bought a nice 64 dart about five years ago and did enough work to get it running and driving. Have the carb apart now to fix some issues (I tightened the fuel inlet to stop a leak and didn't realize it would mess up the float level). Bought one of the recommended choke devices to replace the non working unit on the car. Problem is the previous owner removed the fast idle cam when he rebuilt the carb. He told me the cam was in the parts bin he left me, but looking at part number on the cam it is from a BBD not the BBS 3678 that is on the car. Linkage looks to be the correct piece from the pics in my service manual but cam is clearly the wrong one.

Does anyone know the part number for the right cam? All of the Carter manuals I can find only have newer carbs, and I am hoping a part number will help me find one. Hoping to not have to buy a whole carb on ebay just for a cam.

Part number 118-317 is the number of fast idle cam for carb 3678sa has stamped number sometimes whole number but mostly last 3 numbers ,can been seen with out taking carb a part, need wire brush and magnifer.

you state the cam is wrong.....but will it fit and work? A fast idle cam is not exactly a precision piece of plastic. If it fits the peg it rotates on AND lines up with the tip of the adjuster screw it should still work for the intended purpose.

It is possible that the carb you have was a reman at some point in the past 60 years and got the wrong cam installed at that point.

No, a BBD fast idle cam will not fit on a BBS. Totally different configuration.

The centre hole has to be the right size…the linkage hole has to be in the correct position relative to the cam steps…the choke unloader tang has to be in the correct position…the steps have to be the correct distance out from the centre hole…the counterweight, if there is one (yes on the BBS, no on the BBD), has to weigh the right amount. And plastic isn't involved here; all BBS fast idle cams are metal.

Don't fret about the number stamped on the cam; a fast-idle cam from any '61 or later automatic-choke Chrysler-spec BBS will work. Some of them have three steps, some have four, some might have five, but the critical dimensions and configuration are all the same. Post a want-ad and you'll have what you need in short order.

(the '60 BBS cam could be made to work with a few minutes and a file, but let's leave those one-year-only cams for those who really need them)

Carb has been in a slow decline since I bought the car. Has leaked gas since I got it, I believe the previous owner overtightened the screws on top and badly warped it. My first rebuild I doubled up on gaskets and soaked them in Marvel Mystery Oil per Dan's recommendation in an old post I found.

This year the original choke crapped out and I planned on refreshing it again, along with the choke and fast idle that has been missing. It had other plans and decided to leak even worse. Even tried tripling up on the top gasket. Leaks too much to drive now.

I did put wanted posts here and FABO without luck, and didn't want to buy a whole carb just for one part on ebay at inflated prices.

It was the original carb so I was hoping to salvage it but I'll have to figure something else out now. Engine will be rebuilt and I have a Clifford I'll probably use that I bought back in the 90's and never ended up using on another car.
