 Post subject: Rotating effort?

Have any of you guys that are assembling your own engines ever checked the force needed to rotate the crankshaft with the bearings installed? I remember my only"professionally" built engine and how little effort it took to spin it. So I decided to check mine.

I am rebuilding my back up engine and just installed the crank and main bearings. Once moving it takes only 11-15 inch pounds to spin the crank. Not very much. Will do the same once I get the pistons and rod bearings installed. Just one more reference point.

Just the crank there should not be much of any drag on a straight main bore block.

The rings will be what add the most drag.

Until the valvetrain is installed.

Yeah, I figured I'd just start keeping track a little and see what everything does when it is installed.

I remember with my K1/Wiseco setup for the 64 Dart motor it took about 6-8 ft-lbs to rotate it, before breakin and with no head, cam, chain... Your crank number sounds good.
