When I do swap my 4 speed back into the car I was considering installing the later through bolt style of rear transmission mount in the car. I didn't know it if the later cross member is a bolt in or if I would just need to modify an early one to accept the later mount. The later capture mount just looks a lot more robust to me. So is this worth doing or should I just run what I got.

If you get a poly version of what you have it will be fine.

I have that mount in the Ruster with transbrake and I had it in the '69 Dart with slicks and 3400# car - Never gave me problems

If you want to swap to the spool mount, then I believe you will have to mate the spool to a new transmission member. I am not certain on this however.

Good Luck!

Greg

Every time I look at the single small bolt at the base of that mount I ask myself why. There is no reason it could not have had two bolts there or at least a larger single one.

Thanks Greg!

Greg's right. Assuming a good-quality part, even the rubber version of the stock pre-'73 vertical-shear trans mount is quite durable. They go for decades. Best spend effort-money-time elsewhere.

IIRC, the later spool mount crossmember will need some tweaks to make it work. Should be child's play for you.

There is a 2 bolt version of that block mount too.

I was wrong.

The spool mounts were made in the 4 hole trans member.
Not sure of the changeover year.
Bolts went from 1/2"ø to 3/8"ø.

Not sure if the holes align up or if futzing nerds to be done.
