I'm sure this has been addressed here before but I'll ask anyway.....
How do you tell the difference between a 7 1/4 and an 8 1/4?
Would the build sheet ID which rearend you have?

7.25" - small, more angular cover, 9 attaching bolts.

8.25" - larger, round cover, 10 attaching bolts.

8.75" - (you didn't ask) ring and pinion center section ("chunk", "pumpkin", etc.) bolts up from front, rear cover integral with axle housing.

...that's pretty handy, but a footnote should be added that most older 8.25 axles have a rounder cover than pictured.

I forget where I ran across that photo, but knew I could use it someday.

I'll see about adding a note for the earlier axles if I can.
