I've just been talking to Schumacher about the possibility of an upgraded engine mount system for the '62-'66 Valiant, Lancer, Dart and Barracuda cars (including Australian Valiants and Utes of these years) equipped with slant-6 engines. He's interested in designing and producing such a setup, and with this poll I'm gauging the interest level.

The system would replace the willowy biscuit-type mounts with the much stronger and better '73-up Mopar spool-type mounts. The spool type mounts allow much less engine "shift 'n' drift" and shake, while still isolating engine vibration so it doesn't shake you off the driver's seat. Various mount materials (rubber, hard urethane, soft urethane) are available.

The conversion package would probably cost around $150, same as Schumacher's other mount kits, and quality would be similarly high.

Great minds think alike! I proposed that exact idea to Schumacher about a year ago and they said they would look into it. Now that they have a second request, they might be more interested.

Yes, I would gladly pay $150 for the later model mounts and then the restorers can have the few stock mounts floating around the world.

I think $150 is a little expensive for a couple of brackets and two motor mounts.

Well, I don't work for $0.00/hr, and I bet you don't work for $0.00/hr, so it's a fairly good bet that Schumacher doesn't, either. Proper design and careful fabrication for a bolt-it-on-and-go operation is worth money.

True, but $150 worth? After the initial mockup and the patterns are made, don't you think the "minimum wage" person will be doing the assembly?

That's possible. I don't know how many employees (if any) work for the head honcho. Still and all, if the options are "Available at $150" or "not available", I'll take option A...

Will these mount work on the 67 - 72 a bodies too??

Or are these yet a diffrent mount system from the 62-66.

Different brackets for '67-'72, but those cars have lots more existing engine mount options.

That price is way to much for me. I would spend my $150 on a disc brake rear end...or new carpet,,,,new (used)leather buckets....MegaSquirt...

Hell my 5 speed cost $125

My disc brakes cost $100

My Cressida buckets $60

Mags and T/A radials $100

Motor mounts,,,,, I bid $40,,,,just me...Im cheap

I have bought some products from schumacher and they are top quality and nice materials (no cheap stuff, I mean) still I think that 150 bux are a li'l bit pricey. I'd buy that w/o any hesitation @100 bux. 150 seems kinda "we-f-u-c-k-you-for-willing-to-stubbornly-stick-with-your-slant" price

anyways, there are new K mambers out there? please, online sources. My K member has developed some crack and I'd like to replace it.

New K-members are going to be tough to find, but good used ones and even specially reinforced ones are available. You may want to take the opportunity to go to the '73-'76 (in North America) style K-frame, which is already set up for the spool-type mounts.

Now let me see...where did I see those reinforced K-frames...H'mmm....

Personally, I see this really as a high performance item. I have seen no overwhelming troubles (occasional split apart of rubber from metal - normal with age) with 62-66 engine mounts until the buildup gets fairly wild, and even then, they are livable. But, if you want make HP, especially with a stick and good clutch, reinforcement would be good.

For many of us, it's a matter of getting a part. I've been looking for a right side mount for a year.

If that is a problem, then steel motor mounts will fix the problem. And anybody with a welder can make those for the cost of the steel.
