Mopar made rear wheel drive cars till 1989?
Were any of these slant 6's with efi???????

I know I saw a late 80's RWD with a efi 318 in it.

As far as I know the only efi 318's were in trucks. I have a 88 diplomat, and it is a 318 with lean burn and carb. 1989 was the last year for these cars, and I think the engine setup was the same.

There was never a factory produced EFI for any of the slant six family. It's rumored that chrysler did the research but never put it into production.

It's custom fabrication to get EFI. A couple of guys have it working (I think)

Do a search for megasquirt to find them.

I'm sure I saw a 1989 5th ave. with a efi 318 in it.

The last M-body was the 1989 Diplomat/Gran Fury/Fifth Avenue. The only engine available was a feedback-carbureted 2-bbl 318 (albeit with roller cam and nice fast-burn heads).

There was a throttle-body EFI *TRUCK* 318 offered in '89, but not in cars. You may have seen a transplanted truck engine in an M-body. With Chrysler, I'll never say "absolutely never," but if there were any EFI 89 M-bodies built at the factory, it would have only been for R&D.

Well, I will say "never" on one thing: there were never any factory-built EFI sl6 cars. The last SL6 car was the 83 M-body.

I need to correct myself. I don't think the 89 car 318's were efi (need to check), but Chrysler did have a fuel injected 318 in the Imperial, forget what year, but had quite a few problems, and most were converted to carbs.

The EFI Imperial was built from 81-83. Those cars are actually getting semi-collectible now. I used to know a guy who owned 3, all with the original EFI system still working- this was in about 1998.

As you can see, it looks almost identical to an 81-89 carbureted 318. The only visual clue (apart from the words on the air cleaner) is the air-flow sensor in the air cleaner snorkel. Even the computer box on the side of the air cleaner looks almost exactly like the feedback computer for a carbureted 318.

Here are a lot of pictures of what the car looked like:

...let's see if we can find some pictures. I think they had a trunk full of fifties-era tube electronics, didn't they?

On the 57 and 58 Mopars, was the fuel injection EFI, or mechanical, ala rochester, on the GM cars.

Nah, it was a Bendix mechanical system, similar to the Rochester mechanical system on "fuelie" Corvettes.

From what I hear, the Rochester system actually worked better.

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure it was electronic, but I've only ever seen pictures.

In regards to trucks:

In '88 318's went TBI
In '89 360's went TBI

Not sure on the V6's.
