The Gold Duster was a trim package only. Sure-Grip (Chrysler's term for limited-slip differential -- "Positraction" is a GM term, yucky!) was available in the '71 A-body as an extra-cost option on all models.

Sure-grip in a slant? Probably not unless the owner wanted otherwise.

You've probably got a 7 1/4 rear also with 2.76 gears. (just guessing)

Why not? The sure grip was available in all rears (even the 7 1/4) and all engine sizes.
I even have a 7 1/4 with 5.13 (Direct Connection) gears and sure grip.

Sure grips are not just for racing you know...
Sometimes you run into snow, or mud or sand, and I think slant cars get there more often than a hemi car.
If chrysler wanted a drag only rearend, I think it would have a spool?
I have never seen a aspen wagon without a sure grip.

Do they still make limited slip units for the 7 1/4? I've been searching high and low for one with no luck.

Not that I know of. Just keep watching Mopar forums/mail lists, and e-bay. They do turn up once in a while. I got one through this site, about a years or so, ago.

This site implies that limited-slip diffs are still available for the 7-1/4".

Interesting they list a 3.21 and not a 3.23.....

"Positraction units we offer include Lockrights by Powertrax, Auburn, Detroit Lockers, Trac Loc and ARB air lockers."

Do you think they have an ARB locker for my Valaint?

I think you worded well when you said "implied" Dan.

I just called ther 800 number, about the 7 1/4 limited slip rear. They are supposed to call me back, and let me know, if they are available, also whether the repair kit clutch packs are available.

Thanks, Sandy. I said "implied" instead of "says", because it looks like boilerplate text they include on every rear axle page, so it's entirely possible that they have nothing in the way of locking diffs for the 9-bolt.
