I took my holley 1920 carb off, and a piece fell out. I cant figure out what it is. Its copper colored and about half inch long, with a few ridges in it, and a point on one end (I think the point was rubber). I cannot figure this out.

kewl, trivia... could it be the fuel block off piece (I dont know what the technical name is!). It sits inside the end of the fuel line fitting. The end of the float bracket pushes it shut as the float rises ????

Fuel inlet needle. The 1920s originally had a "captive" inlet needle fully enclosed in the fuel inlet fitting, but some of the aftermarket carb kits come with the separate style. You get a new needle and seat assembly in a carb kit.

i thought it went somewhere along that line because when i held it up into the air, some fuel came out, then the piece came out, but i didnt see where from. Only problem is it wont fit into the fuel line........

if it does fit inside the fuel line fitting, im not sure how it came out then because of the bend in the pipe.

ok, figured it out, had to take the inlet pipe off, the piece fits in there alright, but not sure if points goes into carb or not, but my instinct says no.

The inlet needle drops into the "inside the carburetor" part of the fuel inlet fitting, point facing away from the float.

It probably means its installed wrong.

The float mechanism inside the carb is supposed to actuate this needle and shut off the flow of fuel into the carb when the bowl fills- is the float linkage connected to the needle valve?

or you can just leave it as is and drive with your fire extinguisher near your hand. Some asbestos outfit may be neat too... Welcome to the new century Nikki Lauda

if you have the later replacement fuel inlet assy, you ain't need to take the bowl appart. You just unscrew the bronze big nut on the passg side and stuff it with the rubber tipped needle (not what you're thinking, huh?) with the rubber tip facing outside the carb. (Am I clear?)

if your float level is right that may do it. If your float level is off, you may have black smoke outa your tailpipe if you rev it hard in N or P (unloaded)

I had the needle in correctly already.......................
and i dont see why i would need to take the bowl off if i can get the needle in the inlet just fine by unscrewing the bronze piece.
