Hello one and all!

I inherited my grandmothers '62 plymouth valiant with a 225 slant 6 engine that I am currently working on. In the process of the overhaul, I had found out that I need a new head.

So my question is this - does anyone in the California SF Bay area/San Mateo County area have a head for a 225 engine? I need it ASAP for a good price. I don't have that much money, so I'll take any and all offers that are given to me.

Please e-mail me directly or please post a reply.

Kirsten-

Are you sure the car needs a new cylinder head? That's a very odd thing for a Slant-6 engine to need. Perhaps it just needs a new cylinder head gasket? What leads you to believe the head needs replacing?

I am a mechanic - and in the overhaul, the wrong drill was used and now all the exhaust valves will NOT seat properly AT ALL.

Currently, there is NO head gasket attached. The only replacement head has cracks in two of the combustion chambers. The gasket that I took off was in great condition - no cracks.

Yes - I'm sure that I need a new head. I can't send the head out because I only have one car ( the valiant) and I need it to run by the end of this month - no exceptions.

I have been looking into replacing the head on my 63, and I've done a little research here.
If you have a chance to get a 68 - 74 head, grab it.
75-79 heads are also an upgrade, but don't look "original"

As I understand it, 1960 through 1979 heads are interchangeable.
68 and newer have an improved combustion chamber.

Check this chart linked below.
If you go to Slantsix.org home and click on Articles,
there is also an article about "revised combustion chamber"

That, then, is a very good reason for needing a new head.

On a budget? Go hit www.car-part.com, searchable used auto parts nationwide. Put in 1970 Dodge Dart cylinder head, restrict the search to your local area, next screen pick the 6-cylinder engine, and hit "Search". Results will show interchangeable heads. A '72-up head in good shape is a nice catch 'cause it'll have factory induction-hardened exhaust valve seats.

Or, you could always just send a private message to Doctor Dodge here on the board. He's right in your area and I bet he has a good used head for you.

As far as cylinder head physical interchangeability: 1960 through 1980, all 170, 198 and 225 slant-6s in all applications. The '68-up heads have a slightly better combustion chamber shape, the 1975-up heads use taper-seat spark plugs rather than gasket-seat, and some 1972-up heads have air injection ports you don't need or want, but other than that, they all interchange.

Be sure to check if your '62 has the aluminum block 225 engine which was available from late '61 to early '63! If it does, you must use the special (and hard to find) head gasket; the standard gasket cannot be made to work.

Thanks!
My eingine is my class project for this semester, and my professor allowed a few guys in my class finish off the drilling - which screwed it up.

At the beginning, the guy who was teaching me how to drill out the old valve guides gave me the Chevy drill and NOT the Chrysler drill..

What are you willing to offer? I'm in the market for some spare parts. I am looking at the sites suggested above, and I am curious as to what kind of a deal your willig to make.
