i'm looking to find out weather i can change these cranks and wich will serve my purpose best as most of you know i have a 85 ram with a older solid liftered 225 and i beleive the engine i got the other crank out of is out of a hydrolic liftered engine but when i set the two cranks up beside each other i found one is built much heavier then the other so i did some looking and found they had diffrent cranks for trucks i'm wondering how long they did this as well but i did get the numbers off both which read
4095246 8 this is the lighter of the two out of the solid liftered engine
3698966-1 and this is the one out of the hydrolic liftered engine

The crank difference isn't solid/hydraulic lifter, it's forged/cast crank. All Slant-6s up to midyear '76 production have the forged crank. From midyear '76 on, the cast crank was used. Forged and cast cranks do not interchange (bearing size/location differences, etc.)

wasn't sure if there were more oil ducts in the crank for the hydrolic engines or not but they are both cast so now it just a matter of which will work best for my ram as it will do some hauling of my 75 coronet

The 225-2 and 225-3 heavy-duty slant-6 engines (1961 through 1976) got shotpeened cranks.

and they used both cranks from 77 to 82
Which "both"?

Cast cranks and forged cranks do not interchange.
Measure the width of the bearing journals, the cast crank has narrow journals, to make up for the weaker cast iron material they are made of.

No, all are the same so just use the crank that is in the best condition.
