I put an Offenhauser intake and the four bbl Holley 390 on my 1965 Valiant.

I also changed the cylinder head to one I pulled of a 1976 dart.

I don't have the carb or the valves adjusted that well yet but, it is running.

However, it is running a bit hot.

Do you think that this might be because I set the valves a bit "loose"? I set them at more than .022 exhaust and over .012 intake because the car was cold when I was doing this and I figured that the heat would cause it to tighten up?

Or do you think that running different spark plugs would help?

Thanks

A lean fuel mix will run hot. It's just my first guess, but check for vacuum leaks and mixture adjustment.

I won't say your other ideas are way off, but I don't really know.

do yourself a favor and readjust the valves hot. cold adjustments just aren't accurate.

check ignition timing and your vacuum advance. the vacuum advance hose fell off my dist. one time and caused the engine to overheat(read: boiling) from retarded timing.

I would say warped cylinder head and/or bad head gasket.
