SBP 11" rotor/hub, KH calipers. How does the rotor seperate from the hub, are these things pressed on? There is a machine shop I could go to but I wondered if anyone has a home remedy.

Held together by the studs - bang out the studs and they fall apart.

Take one hammer with 2 flat ends (love my terminology?) and place it over the stud. Then take another hammer and bangbang. Heavier one hand sledges work well. If you want to reuse the studs, put a lug nut on them upside down until its flat with the stud top.

It's not a good idea to strike the face of a hammer with another hammer. Hammer faces are often hardened and may chip when struck together. The resulting chip will be a small, very sharp, missile which can easily penetrate flesh. I've seen it happen and it isn't pretty. Used a drift or unhardened steel rod and keep the mushroom impact ridge ground off smooth or it will do the same thing. Or better yet, take it to a garage or machine shop and have it pressed out.

I used a brass hammer in the middle so it was a bit softer... hmm, never heard of this flesh penetrating missile phenomenon

Taking it to a shop to have the studs pressed out just seems wasteful, find something to put in the middle, a hard piece of wood maybe or some other metal stock. I just said another hammer because it has a handle so you don't have to have your fingers anywhere near a striking hammer.

wood will be too soft. An untempered steel bar would work or a large punch; you could hold them with vice grips to keep your hand away. Be sure to wear eye protection and heavy leather gloves would be prudent as well. A press is still the right and safest way to do it.

I got them seperated and the studs out by using the lug nut suggestion. I put them back on, flat side up, level with the top of the stud. A couple good shots with a small sledge got them out. Actually came out eaiser than I thought, and no damage. Thanks for the help.
