Sometimes I have too much time to dream. Would a slant six fit into a '53 Dodge pick-up? The engine bay looks a little narrow.

What do you think?

Joe

I know I have seen a /6 transplanted in to a 57 Dodge pickup. I imagine the are pretty close to the same size.

If I was gonna try to put a slant in an earlier pick-up, Id look for a post-61 /6 Town Wagon or Panel to rob parts from- prolly easier said than done, though!

You can install a slant/6 in a Pilothouse Dodge, it will fit. You may have to massage the passenger side inner fende, but it will go. You should be ok on the firewall, but double check it. I'm installing a slant/6 in my 50 Plymouth wagon with similar size concerns, but it can be done.

Consider reversing the radiator support. Some install the longer
236-251-265 "big block" six by moving the radiator forward.

The '48-53 trucks are attractive, they have shortened wheelbase
and cross-steering for tight turning, tighter than some current
small cars. Some 4wd builders add cross-steering to late model
trucks for better trail handling. Pilot-House trucks had a lot of
innovation, they were the most advanced trucks of their era.
