As I recall they are swaged into the drum flange and take some heavy persuasion with a large hammer or preferably a hydraulic press. Once they have been replaced once they aren't quite so much trouble. I believe there may have been a cutting tool at one time to do the job but I always just pressed them out since the drum is history anyway.

posts? do you mean the wheelstuds? they should be pressed into a hub that houses the wheel bearings as well. whatever you do, don't pound on the studs. if you have to use a bfh, use a block of wood and beat the hub in the center. hydraulic press does wonders here. if you don't have one, find a local shop to press them for you. should cost 5 bucks or so if you bring them the parts and eveything is clean.

I've heard mention that if you cut the drum around the studs with a hole saw that the drum will almost fall off the hub.
