I want to buy one of those liquid holding tools used to cc combustion chambers. I think it's called a 'burette'. I was talking with a machine shop about doing the final 45 degree seats when I get done porting my /6 head, and they said they would charge FORTY DOLLARS to measure EACH CHAMBER!!! Well needless to say, I said something equivalent to "no". $69 to grind the seats is more than enough. Besides, if I had my own tool, I could cc all the chambers, plus use it on other engine projects whenever I wanted. How much do these things usually cost? Thanks.

I have to do that to my head too, so I can calculate my final compression ratio. I got a piece of lexan and drilled a small hole it in and put some grease around the chamber to stick it water tight.poked a spark plug in there, and grabbed a "horse" syringe from my local Feed/Hay store. Total out of pocket cost $10, and I had to tell the clerk I was using it for my own habit...
*grin*

Good luck,

There is a tools article in the August 2001 Hot Rod magazine. Someone is selling a "kit" with the burette and some other things for $139 (???) Seems quite spendy to me. The $10 syringe in the other post may be an acceptable inexpensive alternative.

I called Summit, and they said Comp Cams has them for $39.95 . I'll try there.

I just went and picked up a new 60cc Horse Cathater Syringe and a piece of plexiglass and a tube of blue food coloring for a grand total of $3.78 out of pocket. I needed to replace my old syringe and with that equipment it was easy to find my chambers are 52.5 cc's each with very little variation (less than 1/10th) due to casting flash I ground out of my chambers.

Good luck,
