Any idea what this EFI set-up would be worth?

Would there be a bigger gain from using a roller cam and spending the money there?

From what I can tell they didn't rejet the carby for optimum performance, they just say that they bedded in the cam, set the timing and went for it. They mention that the carby was running lean but make no mention of what they did, if anything, to correct the situation.
Would it be unfair of me to suggest they didn't optimise the carby so that the HP figures between the carby and the EFI were different enough to make the EFI changeover look like a worthwhile investment?

correct, and as sick6 said, they switched manifolds

still not a bad buildup though, just slightly misleading

Did they use a 500cfm edelbrock carb on this motor?? I believe along with
most people on here that they would have found even more "clarifying"
results with taking the time to dial in the carb. This appeals to me in the fact that the carb fits my budget much better than custom efi...

Okay ... The carb was a 650, and it was dialed in before it made the 300 HP. It was not running lean for the final carbureted pull. But in order to get the A/F ratio correct on the high end, it was too fat on the low end. It would take more time to get it all right than we felt was neccessary since we were only looking for the high end number. The manifolds were different, but only because the Clifford was easier to convert to EFI.

OK Rich, thanks for clearing that up.

What would the EFI set-up cost?

Actually why didn't you run the carb on the clifford manifold with the injectors in place to stop vacuum leaks but with the ECU unplugged? Then you could have bolted the TB in place, hooked up the TPS, and done back to back testing.

Just a thought.

Good question! I wondered why I did that myself. I guess I did it that way because that was the manifold/carb from his previous engine - and I knew it was going to take a fair amount of time getting that setup dialed. I also expected that it was going to take at least another day or two to get all the electronics working so we just bolted up what would work quickly. But looking back, I should have started with the EFI manifold and stayed with it. Maybe next time :D

A "rough" breakdown of typical EFI costs is on the web site under EFI.
http://www.moparengineswest.com
But any FAST type system runs around $3K+. And you have to add in the cost of the EFI fuel delivery and return system.

Rich,

Just wanted to say thanks for your work here. Finally got the issue, ordered from their backissues, and the article looks great. Hope I get to see Romeo run it sometime and/or meet you in person. Can't make Vegas this year, but maybe next...

Lou

Their website says they moved and have new phone numbers. Maybe that's why they didn't answer.

Figured I would chime in as I ended up on the website and came across this tidbit of info.
