I'm getting ready to send my weekly "nudge" to Brian...

Doc, Did you have a chance to mock up an engine to check clearances?

When I nudge him again I should have his question answered as to whether or not we want to go with different size valve notches or keep it as is. From your responses it looks like leaving them as is may be the consesus (?).

I will ask the question about piston top thickness at the notches.

He had stated in the other thread what he thought the pistons would hold up to, but that was the other forging. He stated in this thread that the crown thickness would be the same with this new, lighter forging.

Oops! I just re-read everyone's posts and it looks like Frank is more interested in the 3.484" size rather than 3.504".

Everyone please chime in so I can go back to Brian with accurate numbers and sizes. Thanks!

Also, those of you who have posted "interest" in these two size pistons let me know if you're "commitedly interested" or "interestedly interested".

I am still going to order 1ea. set 3.504, I need some dome machining done, about 20cc reverse dome. I will discuss that with Brian at the time of the order.
I am also going to order the K1 rods at the same time. I am ready anytime Brian is ready to accept orders. Thanks for all your work on this buy, Good Job!!

Thanks Jim

I am definitely in for a 3.504" bore piston set, and I will also be ordering a new K1 rod set with the narrow big end for cast crank.

I am curious, those who are buying the 3.504 pistons, have you done block tests for wall thickness already? Or are you going on faith and hoping for the best? Or...?
Only reason I ask is that reading the articles and various posts on this subject it seems that going this big is somewhat iffy.

I guess what I would like to know is are any of you going this big and not doing any sonic testing, etc?

Most blocks will take 0.100" over no problem. I will probably not bother sonic testing mine. Tilley and Jeffrey have routinely done 0.140" over, and Bren did 0.180" over.

If you are worried, just get the 0.080" overs!

Lou
