I was looking at the chassis book for my '72 Duster and it recommends 0.87" diam. for a 360 cu in (which is what is going back in). The original torsion bars on my Duster are for a Slant Six. Should I go back with the recommended 0.87" or go to something larger. I like the feeling of a solid ride, but not get bounced around.

I've been extremely pleased both times I've replaced the slant-6 torsion bars (stamped 886 and 887 or 622 and 623) with HD V8 torsion bars (stamped 892 and 893). Much more controlled, less jiggly ride without undue harshness.

As much as I like the std. 73-76 bars (890-891), I'll soon be switchiing to a set of 892-893's I have stuffed away....

If you are junkyard savvy and can find a model that hasn't been front ended...any 1973-1976 Valiant/Dart with a 318 and A/C will have these bars also...

Ben, what kind of LCA/UCA bushings did you put in when you did it?

I think you'd be happy with .87 or .89 tbars for that setup assuming you didn't use poly and have good shocks. I rode in a 65 cuda with a 360 and .87 bars, and the main problem was the jarring from the poly LCA/UCA bushings. You may want a little stiffer too if you're not running a front bar.
