Look at the ring gear on the converter. If it's about 3/8" wide you have the larger, lower stall converter. If the ring gear is nearly 1" wide you have the smaller, higher stall converter. Chances are poor you have the high stall.

What year range does that apply to? All slants, or just the ones that came factory with the small block adapter?

Anything with a 727. 904s only came with the small torque converter.

Hm... mine came with a high stall converter, but it has the thinner ring gear. The replacement (parts store rebuild) was identical. Don't know how it compares in size to the low stall. Of course mine is one of the later models with hydraulic lock-up. Could that be the difference?

There are different variations in the large (12") and small (11") converters. You have the higher stall big torque converter. The smaller torque converter is higher stall yet. I don't know if they made an 11" lockup converter for the 727 or not. Obviously the lockup 904 uses an 11" lockup converter so you could likely have one made to fit the 727.
