I just installed an A-833 4-speed with (used) Hurst shifter. I'm having trouble locating reverse with the shifter. Should one push down and then up to the right, down and down to the right? Don't know. Thanks for any hints.

On mine, reverse is hard left from neutral, then forward, just to the left of first gear.

Before entering first or reverse? Drop it into second to stop the gears from turning. It is easier on the syncho's. Reverse might not have synchro's. My 3 speed doesn't have them in first either.
