 Post subject: no power

shold the timing marks line up with 0 on the timing chain cover when the timing marks on the cam gears are lined up mine line up with a round tube on the cover don,t know what it is for tryed another cover and dampner was the same thanks for any help

This "tube" is for the factory service "probe" mount point. I would suggest using the earler style cover with the conventional "tab" markings.

As for your new engine set-up not making good power, get us a little more info. like the cam's profile info. (especially the overlap "number")

There is an important relationship between the cam and the stactic compression ratio. This is why you see most performance cams combined with increased stactic compression, the bigger cam "uses-up" some of the new compression.

As noted by others, check the cam's installed position and also check the current cranking compression with a guage. (cranking compression will tend to increase as you advance the cam timing) This added info. will shed some light on your lack of "pep".

i also used that cam in my first slant rebuild and was very unhappy with it. it comes on about 2200 and went flat around 42-4400. pitiful powerband to say the least. i tried it in another motor after that one with ill results again. i can not say enough good things about the 264 isky grind i ran for a while, or the reed cam i have now......chad

I have a Comp cam in my 225 and it runs fine;
lift .440 for both intake and exhaust
4.0 degree overlap
108 degree lobe center
IO 2 BTDC IC 38 ABDC

EVO 38 BBDC EVC 2 ATDC

Intake .010 hot
Exhaust .012 hot

One tip on these Comp cams, I tend to run them a little looser on the exhaust "lash" and get better results, try .014 to .016 "lash" to see if it runs better.

I have to say that the internet is speeding-up our understanding about the available SL6 cams and what seems to work best.

My "vision" is to someday have enough info. and test data where we can have some great working part combos for others to follow. The "Frog" and "Bow-tie Boys" have had these types of "recipes" for years. (Mopar V8's have them also)

Basically a set compression ratio (pistons), cam (on an established installed centerline), intake, carb. and headers. (Head porting and valve size would also be a big factor for our SL6)
We are seeing a number of people "closing-in" on good part combos so please keep the information flowing.
