I am rebuilding a 1973 225 and was wondering how you prime the engine with oil before the first start up. In the past with fords and chevys I have used a drill with a some square stock to prime the engine. Is there a way to do this on a slant six by turnin the camshaft or something.

Thanks Joe

Most guys just lightly pack the pump cavity with vaseline. Then you can crank the engine with the plugs removed to get oil circulating. Just be sure your battery is fully charged.

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.

Remove valve cover and pour at least one of the quarts of oil you're using all over the valve train in addition to turning over without plugs

Fill the Filter 3/4 of the way with oil before putting it on the pump before the first startup that helps too.
