ya im looking into buying a hurst quarter stick shifter for my 68 dart with a stock 904 trans. Im just not sure wether i need to buy the forward or reverse valvebody shifter.

With a stock valve body you want the forward pattern shifter. Only with a reverse pattern full manual valve body do you want the reverse pattern shifter.

Depending on what valve body you get, some are a simple bolt in while other require holes drilled in drums, servos blocked, etc..

A funny related story...
My brother just installed a reverse valve body with a trans brake this season in his muskrat drag car. His shifter had the trans brake button in the T of the handle. The first time he launched, he let go of the button and bam! He shifted into second gear :lol: :lol:
Later that day we wired in a second switch 8)
