i ve got a dana 44 rear axle from a 98 grand cherokee, but it lacks the diskbrakes ...well everything from the brakes, and because i live in finland i would need some help of you guys ...is there some place that has these things, so i could get em?

i will put the rear in my Duster, someday when i have all the parts...its a really nice axle, Light, strong and 3.73 gears, and a "locker"...

any info or a site where i could see what im actually missing would be nice. thanks.

The Dana 44 is actually a darn good axle, used in the front of a bunch of full-size 4X4's from the mid-70's up until the late 80's. The problem many of us are going to have finding you the brake parts are that many yards don't want to part out an axle assy. in that manner, usually wanting to sell the entire unit. Getting new parts for it would be BIG $$$$.

You're very right on all counts. Heck, you could even go the air locker route, if it were practical for you. You will, I'm sure, have to mount spring pads on the axle tubes, (in the right locations), to put it under your Mopar, but that's no big deal.

BTW, how do I know?....I've got four of 'em, all under the front & rear of I.H. Scout2 project trucks, (well, one is a parts donor).

You might check for recalls on the 98 Grand Cherokee. there were a slew of problems and replacements from the 95-98 Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. One as I remember right, had to do with the aluminum casing on some of those rear ends.

Whoa.....now I didn't know that Dana had changed the punkin' over to aluminum. That changes my previous. I know about the iron center/steel tube diffs, and those are good. I'd venture to say only one step below the tried-&-true 8.75. I don't know whether one could get a true spool for it, but the locker route is real close.

yeah its aluminium, thats why i like it...light makes you might...well if you ever get to the end of the track...hehe.

some noise problems Whining gears? dont know, but the whine from the 7 1/4 was soooo bad that i dont mind of a small noise.

is there a site in the web that sells these parts?

That depends. If you're going to set your car up with a four-link and coil-over shocks, you might be able to use the existing brackets. However, if you're putting this into an A-body, using the original leaf springs, you'll need to weld on a couple spring perches for the leafs to bolt to. THEN you might have to remove the four-link brackets, if they're in the way, otherwise, they won't hurt anything leaving them there.

The aluminum D44 issue has been tossed around alot on the Jeep TJ,XJ,YJ,ZJ web sites. You can find all the info you want by doing a little searching in the jeep world. Might check some <A HREF="http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/conva ... 44.html</A>& <A HREF="http://www.TJ-list.org">www.TJ-list.org</A>. I haven't heard of any strenght issues surrounding the aluminum case. Biggest issue is carrier and ring&pinion differences between the cast iron version and the aluminum. Less aftermarket support for the alumn versions. The alumn version is a c-clip, unlike the iron case version. Keep in mind all modern D44's are 30spline, like the 8-3/4, and has a similar sized ring gear.. (same diff assy used IRS vetts)..I think it'll hold up to all you can toss it's way..
