I just hooked up a tach in my car and I noted the idle RPMs. It idles warm in park/neutral at 1000 RPM and in gear about 500-600 RPM. Now the factory label says 750. Is that in gear idle or park/neutral idle? Whats RPMs for the fast idle? Its at about 1300 or so right now.

dusterguy225,

I have the same sticker, 750 rpm in park or neutral warmed up. Mine idles at 650 in gear. My fast idle is at 1000 right now. I believe the the FSM says 1200 rpm.
I have it turned down. I hate to waste the fuel.... and with 0-30W synthetic it will stay running just fine at 15 to 20 degree temps.

The way I've always adjusted my idle is to do it in neutral, with the head lights on. Adjust to 750, turn off lights. It will go up to 800rpm, though it idles in gear at around 600-650. It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak if your engine idles at 1000, but drops 400rpm to 600. Dosn't seem right.

Its an equus tach and I have it set on the 6 cyl setting.

I do hear a whistling sound coming from under the hood at about 3/4 throttle, maybe it is a vac leak. Oh and correction about the idle, its around 900 while fully warmed up, and idles at about 600 in gear.
