No. I have seen a few that did a rack in a stock K frame, but you end up with some really funky looking tie rods and lots of bump steer issues.

Contrary to what some will tell you, you can not simply swap the lower ball joints side for side and make a front steer car.

What came to mind just reading the subject line was maybe inappropriate for this board and certainly does not fall under the topic suspension and brakes.

Bump steer is a toe change when the suspension travels away from the static ride height. My '96 Dakota with BellTech lowering spindles would toe in on suspension compression. You don't want the wheel to turn in or out as it goes up and down.

I don't mean to put you down, but it seems to me that if you aren't sure what bump steer is, then you almost certainly do not need to convert to rack and onion steering. Why do you want to do this?

its fine dan i just wanted to be different with a rack
but i am satisfyed with how my car steers i just woundered if i could make it better its got a manual gear box and it steers good compared to my 67 ford galixy and 77 chevy truck (which both have manual steering) the duster drives the best by far

You say your Duster sters fine but you want to switch to a rack and pinion steering anyway? You want to do it just to be different? That is a whole lot of work for something that you don't need. I have driven both A-bodies and cars with rack and pinion. In daily driving, I actually prefer the A-body suspension. I have never noticed a difference between the two in daily driving, so I recommend saving your money and energy and keeping the original suspension on your Duster.

Installing a rack and pinion setup does not have to produce bumpsteer....in fact on beam axle 4wds it can reduce it.

Lou and I have chatted about a rack on early As. My plan would be to simply replace the centre link with a narrow rack and replace the steering box with another idler arm. You keep the stock geometry.

When I replaced the power steering on my bogger with a rack I lost 67 lbs .....

Its not a project I would take on lightly......but I dont think it would be any more complex than many other common swaps.
