i just put a new alternator on my 69 dart 225 ci.it is 50 volts/amps single pulley.after i changed it it still was discharging,so i replaced the voltage regular.i started the car,at idle is was perfect, dead center.as soon as i stepped on the gas it pegged itself to full charge and stayed there while driving, but at idle speed it was ok.i grounded the regulator on the car so it wouldn't over charge.what might be the problem?is it safe to keep over charging the system?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
butch

Get a voltmeter and see what the voltage is.......

I agree get an reading with a meter to find out how much voltage you are putting in the system, it definitely is not a good idea to run an overcharging car something will fry or the battery could explode.
