Hi all
question. I have a 1970 dodge dart with the trusty slant 6. I was wondering if anybody knows if it has points or electronic ignition? There is an electronical box on the firewall but the ballist resistor is the two prong kind. I was told if it was electronic ignition it would have the dual ballist resistor type. the engine is all stock. if it does have points what is the electrical box on the firewall. any help would be appreciated.

How many wires are coming out of the side your distributor?

Points spotter’s Guide:
Pop off the distributor cap, and look for a set of points articulated from the six sided cam mounted on the distributor’s shaft. This thing.

Electronic Ignition spotter’s guide:
Look for a six blade reluctor, that is, six vertical fins pointing out from the distributor’s shaft. Additionally there will be mounted in the engine compartment an “Electronic Spark Controlâ€￾ often orange in color, but can be black or chrome, or something all together different from an after market company.

If it is still stock it will be points and the "electronic box" should be the voltage regulator.
