What was the original tire size for 13" rims?

Thanks.

Car Model: 64 Plymouth Valiant
6.50 13

About 24.7" diameter and 6.50" total width.

Fit on 13 x 4.5" rim

The radial tire of correct diameter is a 185 80 13 (but it's wider).

The 185 tires are very hard to find now.

Best bet is to goto 14" rims.

Use a 185 75 on the 14 x 4.5 and
195 70 or 205 70 on the 14 x 5.5.

If you don't want to change rims, Coker Tire still carries 13" tires in both 6.50-13 and P185/80R13 sizes.

Well I found a 175/70/13 at Pep Boys. 4 tires mounted and balanced only 255.10!

Did you consider that those are 2" shorter than original?

You would need to switch from a 17-tooth speedometer gear to a 19-tooth gear to keep your odometer & speedometer accurate with a P175/70R13 tire.

I have no idea how to do that. How much difference could it really make?

Using the P175/70R13 tire should make your odometer record about 11% more miles than actually traveled. At an indicated 60 mph you would actually be traveling at about 54 mph (if your speedometer was still within calibration).

Well that is the closest tire I can find. I guess reading a little slow is better than reading a little fast. At least I will never get a speeding ticket.
I would not even begin to know how to adjust my speedo.

You will need to install a different speedometer drive gear, (19 tooth) at the other end of the cable, where it goes into the tailhousing of the transmission.

I got my 16-tooth pinion gear from Brewer's Performance.

You still have the original trans in the car? If so it's a different gear than the '66+ models. The selection for the earlier speedometer drive gears is more limited and they cost more.

It is the 727 that came with the car originally.
