Correct color depends on year and application. See here. Most of them are available in rattle cans.

I'm thinking you may have misread.

I read "Blue: 1970-1983 all passenger cars & trucks, North American market"

Correct engine color is red. If yours is another color, somebody either swapped engines or hit your engine with a can of paint of a non-original color.

F: 1970 model year
225: Engine displacement
R: Passenger car engine
1024: Not a 10-kiloday calendar date, because 1024 would be 21 May 1964 and that doesn't match up with the engine's casting number. Next most likely possibility is that the engine was built on October 24, 1969.

Dan- I have to correct one minor point on that list of engine colors. 1983 slant six powered trucks and vans had black engines. The original motor in my brother's 83 van was black, the original motor from sixshotvanner's 83 van was black, the hydraulic motor EricW and I installed his old Satellite came out of an 83 van and was black, and every 83 Dodge van powered by a slant I have found in a junkyard has had a black slant six motor. The odd thing is that the 318 in my current 83 Dodge van is blue. Apparently slants were ahead of the curve in 83 when black became the motor color.

I can send you a picture of the factory black 83 slant block on the stand in my garage if you would like further confirmation.

No need for photos, looks like I was off by one year on the advent of black paint. I'll go edit the post -- thanks for the heads-up.

The stock color on my '82 D150 slant was black as well, and I know the entire history of this truck so it's original.
