Well, I took my head to a shop the other day- big valves, guides, hardened seats etc.

I get a call today, the guy told me to come in and have a look at a problem.
I said:
"give it to me straight"

He tells me that he found a pinhole while machining the valve seat. He seems to think it is a casting flaw .

Have not seen it yet.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

how big are the valves? what year is the head? usually there is a problem when grinding ports and pocket areas. if it`s in the wall you might be able to weld it.

Exhaust valve 1.44".

I think the head is from a'66 or '68 but not positive

He said it was in the actual machined area for the valve seat meaning it revealed itself in his cut out area.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it will be repairable.

if it the seat that is a hard area to weld, i was told the weld will be harder than the head surface and the seat cutter wouldn`t be able to cut the seat ture. maybe a harden seat might be installed.
