Hey guys, I seem to have misplaced my service manual...

What's the proper way to remove the axle seals on an 8 3/4" housing? Do I need a special tool?

I just use a pair of channel locks, or big screw driver, and pop it out.

Thanks. I'll give the channel locks a try, but it hasn't even budged yet...

Another "trick" is to use the axle shaft to pop the seal out.
Insert the tip of the axle shaft, behind the seal and pry it out.

Thanks Doc, I'll try that, too!

I must be over thinking this...

I used a small chisel to put a dent in the seal and relieve some of the pressure on the seat around the axle housing and then popped it out with the axle like Doc described.
