could someone help me out with a picture of the rear main seal, and how it should sit in the block/cap.

i know about the oil pan article, ive read it like 100 times, but its been such a long day, and with my dyslexia im just having trouble figuring out exactly how it should go. id like to get the rear main cap on, and call it a night. and finish everything up another day. thanks!

maybe i should have mentioned that picture just looks like a black ring in the cap, i can see no grove or flat or angled. its not a very good picture, atleast on my laptop. i even tried messing with brightness and contrast.

If you are using the "rubber seal" look at it you will see a lip on the inside of the curve, the edge (lip) goes toward the front of of the motor. You will notice the bolt heads will be visible if you look at the back end of the crank.

how bout this, does the part number on the felpro seal face the front or rear of the motor

Look at the seal as a knife and put the cutting edge toward the front of the motor! :shrug:

someone sends me a pic, weather it be a standard pic with a arrow pointed to a side in Paint.. i am just not seeing the picture reading what you are posting. i dont understand how the seal has a "sharp edge" compared to the other side

This is NOT a slant six seal but you can see what is needed.

Toward the front of the motor. In your picture it looks like you cut off part of the seal. The seal should fill all of the groove Do Not cut any off.

Yes, that is correct. Make sure the upper half of the seal is installed the same way. The lip points towards the oil and pressure in the crankcase forces the lip into contact with the crank. If the seal is in backwards crankcase pressure will push the seal lip away from the crank.

The seal should fit all the way in the groove, if not you will have a gap and a large oil leak. This is a old rope style seal in place, the new rubber style should fill the groove the same way.

It's OK to give the 2 seal halves a little off-set, just so all the parting lines do not line-up... but no "trimming" allowed on the molded rubber seal inserts.
