While swapping parts on my '64 Valiant I discovered that one of the steering box mounting bolts is torn out of the K-member. It's the one nearest the motor so I don't think I can just weld a 7/16 NF nut on the back of it. Must be all those miles of driving on LA roads and a few years of hard driving in vintage rallies. Also explains the vagueness I sometimes felt.

I haven't got the motor out but I think this means that I need to pull the K out of the chassis, which was not something I was planning on.

Any repair advice?

Go ahead and save that weird car, the sedan, the 6 cylinder, the C-Body. If you want a big block musclecar and that's all you care about, your missing the point.

is this on a slant car? or a v8 car?

if its a slant car there might be enough room to drop the exhaust and pull the strewing box..

then get a heli coil thread repair kit in the thread size you need.

hopefully there will be enough room to get a drill and tap in there.. also maybe a right angle drill head could help too.

good luck.

Slant - and luckily the engine is coming out soon-ish. So I should have lots of room. I'm just not sure that a helicoil will work.
