I saw the 62 hyperpak at the slant six show at clifford last weekend- It concerned me the hood was cut to fit the air cleaner. I want to put one of these manifolds in one of my 61 Valiants but I am not willing to sacrifice a hood. I looked back through photos of the Nascar Valiant, Falcon, Corvair race to see if the hyperpak Valiants had their hoods cut - None of them did - the setup they ran fit under the hood.

Is the Clifford hyperpak a taller setup than the original? Or did the 62 I saw at the show just have the hood cut to get the cold air advantage?

BTW - Clifford claimed to have the Hyperpaks in stock today - so I put my order in. We will see how soon they deliver.

According to most sources, the element/pie tin wouldn't fit so they either ran without one or made something work to get the hood to shut...

You can get a decent air cleaner onto a Hyper-Pak "low block" 170 but hood clearance become pretty tight with the taller 225.
The factory used an air cleaner withan off-set base to help move the air cleaner more towards the center for more hood clearance.

I've seen an Abod Barracuda complete with Hyper Pak and offset Shaker hood in an old Mopar Magazine. That'd be cool.

Well it only took two months and a few days for Clifford to deliver the manifold that was "in stock". I guess there are somethings for which you must wait. And on the plus side they did deliver - not like the ebay hyperpak which I never saw. But that is another story.

Let the fitting, grinding, and engine building begin !!!

For the Air cleaner how about a 14inch circular baseplate a thin spacer and a X stream lid might be good for a low profile setup?

I looked through the runners and inside the plenum - It has some casting flash (or slag) but it is not one of the ones that had the photos posted.
It looks like I will need to get a dremel tool with a long flexible feed to
remove the casting flash from the inside of the two middle runners - the rest looks pretty clean. I haven't done a check fit on the head yet (to
see if the mounting holes are lined up)

As for the Air cleaner - I bought a 14" x 2" (maybe 3") offset setup
from Summit. The offset will keep it from getting into the fender
area where the hood is rolling off.
I am putting it on a 170 - so that buys me an inch on the
height - Probably will also skip the adapter Clifford sold me - just drill
and tap the carb pattern into the manifold directly - that will give me
another .5" on height. It still looks real close - Sure hope I don't need
to cut the hood.

Im putting a h-p on 60 valiant but I cut an off set scoop off of a mid 80's trans am hood and I am mating to my val hood.I know this sounds weird but it looks really slick and my car is not gonna be exactly" stock" anyway.

I seen an offset air cleaner assembly in a recent Jegs or Summit catalog. It was in the section with stock car stuff. Might help a little?
