Ho-ho-ho! (had my first-ever request to play Santa at a Xmas party this year...)
So you finally found the big lights... playing the part of jolly old Slanta.

Heads up for yeah Slanta, you won't have to stop at my place this year, as I to have purchased a gift for the little women & my self, a Select Number Bed. Now, I hope to be dreaming in color of Mopars and slanty little engines, and not viewing cable infomercials all night any more.

Dear Slanta Claus-

I want an aussie speed intake manifold and gasket set.
A shiney new carb.
And a set of dutra duals for Christmas.
Oh and world peace....But you could skip that last one as long as I get the Dutra Duals

No problem. As most everyone here knows there aren't many people that work with these engines that are also employed by cam grinding companies. Comp gives suggested compression ratios for a lot of their cams along with other recommended equipment, but nothing for the slant.

I once tried a Crane Cams spring and retainer package they list for Chrysler small blocks. The retainer was kinda goofy and reduced the spring installed height by a bunch. Those things went back and I bought Comp springs and retainers which were made nicer and had a reasonable installed height.

If you want a real treat call Comp and talk to Tim Cole. He is a six cylinder Comp racer and incredibly knowledgable about doing little motors like ours. :D

the stock retainer work perfect, all you need are hardened locks that are with the engnbldr valves.

yes i have used them in all my engines with no problems, just spend your money on good harden locks, that is what will have the most pressure on them. i tried mopar`s aluminum retainer on one engine and never seen any gains.

Personally I would not use a stock spring retainer on a larger that stock diameter spring. Stock retainers (and locks) are fine for light loads and low engine speeds. With a heavier spring, more aggressive cam and higher speeds I do not trust stock retainers to stay in the spring without falling in or trust it not to split. A friend had to write off an entire engine due to a retainer failure. A set of good retainers is much cheaper than a new engine.
