Forgot to post the awesome power brake vacuum attachment and the cooked mud dauber nest.

Machine shop called. New piston mock up had .18 deck height. Going to mill .07 for a .11 deck. Compression ratio calculator shows just over 9 to 1 before milling any off the head.

Machine shop called the engine is ready.

Oregon Cams hasn't called or emailed yet. FedEx tracking says it was delivered on the 13th. Should I call or let them call me?

My experience with turn around time was less than 2 weeks for sure. I'd touch bases with them if it was me.

Thanks. I noticed the cylinder and lifter bores have a little surface rust. Should I go spray them with oil? (CLP)

ETA. I wiped down the bores with motor oil. Nice clean block ready for paint. I'm thinking light blue, not black. (Original color) It's a Nightwatch dark blue truck. Thoughts on color? Not red.

Did you need 60 over to clean things up? I see that's what you show in the compression ratio calculator

The machine shop cleaned it and wrapped it in a bag. Pictures are from just after unloading and back on the engine stand.

Oregon Cams said they received my cam but are buried in work at the moment. Hoping they get to mine soon.

Prepping the block for paint. I'll mask off the head, pan, and timing cover. Thinking I mask off the oil pump, distributor, and fuel pump too? What paint is preferred? One video recommend 7 days to cure. Thoughts? Opinions?

Depends on what paint you use.
I won't recommend the por 15 engine paints.
My experience wasn't good, surprised because I've had good luck with the rest of their stuff.
Though the particular engine paint of theirs that I tried was a few years old before I tried it. Though it was never stored anywhere it could have ever frozen or anything...
It came out opaque, kinda watery. After many coats still didn't cover. And this was on a fresh from the machine shop block that was as clean as yours looks.
On my next one I was gonna try the bill Hirsch line of engine paints, I've heard alot of good things about them.
All of the duplicolor, etc rattle can engine paint I have used over the past handful of years lasts about a year then peels. Their stuff never used to, used to be good stuff but no more.

Was going to use rust oleum or por15 and brush instead of spray. Should be warm enough this weekend to paint. I'll look into the paint you mentioned.

Oregon Cams called Friday and we decided on a 1522 grind reversed 214 210 108 if I remember correctly. I'm not finding the 1522 grind online.

Looking at the roll master roller timing chain and will degree in the cam. Not finding a Cloyes timing chain with
multiple key ways. I could use a button on a silent chain though.

Got busy with stuff around the house and the woman's truck so not much progress on the slant.

Put the crank on the block today and started to snug the main caps when I realized I didn't have a rear main seal. :oops:

Ordering a gasket set now. Also noticed the ring compressor bottom size is 3.5. :roll: Guess I should order a smaller version. 1 step forward....

ETA I have a pan and oil pump gasket. Should I just piece this out? I've searched and some people have mentioned that.
